In town on business. The donut intrigued me. Had the tom and Chee, which was ok. The creamy Tom basil soup was excellent! Service was quick and friendly. Had 2 donuts. The king, with carmalized bananas and pb. The bananas were amazing! Also had the Smore, which I would go back for. Exactly what it sounds like... on a donut!!

Get the turkey, pesto grilled cheese - OMG - YUM!

I stopped in here on my way to the sports bar to watch a soccer match and the guy behind the counter was super helpful in choosing a sandwich. He even had them make it the custom way he likes it. Also, (and here's the kicker) one of the guys changed the channel on the TV so i could watch the first 45 of the soccer match and then headed off to the bar for the second half. Thanks guys. (Oddly, the floor is painted to look like a murder scene... red and yellow splashes and smears everywhere, especially creepy in the bathroom.)

It's good solid food! Great Sandwiches and soup! Simply good!

For someone who does not like Tomato soup...I really do like this place. They have a couple of different veggie options besides building your own sandwich and the Creamy Tomato Basil is very good. I ate at the Tom & Chee in Newport and was happy to see they worked there way down to us. This is a good "Guilty Pleasure" for us. Not something I am going to eat every week, but every now and then! :)

Awesome. Love this place ever since seeing its roots on Shark Tank. The people are friendly and the food is awesome! Nice nested hide away. I recommend every one get a little bit curiosity and try a glazed donut smacked together with some cheese in the middle.... Oh... Don't forget the soup.

They are no longer using Grippos chips in their sandwiches. Sucks. That was the only reason I came here.

We Sat for twenty minutes with no food. Watched while others who came in after us receive their food. When I got up to question where are food was the employee said they had no idea and then walked back into the kitchen. Sat another 5 minutes debating to get our money back when the cold food arrived. Will not be going back needless to say

New store and I ordered the Spicy Beef sandwich. They put a ton of Roast beef on it and it was absolutely delicious! The store was pretty clean and they had a lot of workers. They had a big dinner rush and it seemed as if they moved pretty well with it.

Even though I've been longing for some good, authentic southern food during my visit to Kentucky and while I know that variations of grilled cheese don't really qualify, this is still an interesting place. My sister and her boyfriend brought me here because they know I'm a foodie. The owners were on Shark Tank, so they thought this would be a place I'd like to try. They weren't wrong! I ordered The Flying Pig and the chunky tomato basil soup. The sandwich was as good as a grilled cheese could possibly be (gouda, yummm), but the soup was not so great, too much salt, not enough basil (for my taste). I wavered between a 3-4 star rating but I'm not quite sure if I'm a true fan yet. The staff here is incredibly friendly, and the menu is super creative. Maybe one day Tom+Chee will make it a little further out west, and I can try some more of their inventions. Really like the bottled teas they offer here!

This location is great. A little hard to find parking (I usually just park in the lot behind Drakes) but overall, it's a great experience. It's also a little hard to find, overall, unless you know the area. That's how it goes with that part of St. Matthews though. My food always come out fast and it's delicious. It's a little smaller (I think) than the Highlands location but still plenty of space. Great for a quick meal, for fun or for business. And the employees are friendly and helpful. Can't recommend it enough.

I love this place. So clean and neatly organized. I love the menu being written out explaining everything on the wall. The opposite wall has the local sports teams and historical pictures. The staff was so helpful in giving great options and ways to change up the regular menu items. They let us sample the soup so we could find the texture we liked best. I'm upset that the one on campus was shut down but I understand why. The food here is so great and so fresh! I love it!

Best Grilled Cheese In the history of the world. No parking. Parking near here is a joke. Service is no service at all, but they expect tips. When did making your food require a tip? Nobody pours me my drinks or brings me my food. My tip --- don't ask for a tip.

Keeping in mind that we are talking about grilled cheese and tomato soup, this place is the bomb. REALLY good soup and the sandwich combos are fun. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will be back to try more menu items. Tom+Chee, you have a new fan!

First of all it was lunch rush hour but the restaurant was not clean. Toilet was disgusting. The food was ok. I had Turkey on my sandwich and it was dark meat. Not what I expected I really didn't like the taste at all. The chunky basil soup was decent. I won't be back just not the kind of restaurant I like. I think it would be better for younger kids, teenagers and young adults.

Just you average Tom and Chee. Parking is a bit difficult, especially if the school nearby is ending for the day. Causes a lot of traffic problems. Try the doughnut dessert with chocolate sauce!
(3)Andrea K.
Really love this place! Very affordable and gluten free bread/options for any avoiding. The staff is friendly and try hard to get it right. They will cook your order in a separate pan and change gloves if you have a gluten allergy. You can have peace of mind eating here! Delicious sandwiches and fresh ingredients! Highly recommend!

I will for sure be coming back to get my grilled cheese fix. Service was fast, accurate and top notch. My favorite is the old fashioned grill cheese and Tom and Chee does it to perfection. My only wish is more chip selections but instead of chips you can pair the sandwich with soup or a salad which is a great substitute for chips.

Three and a half stars. I got a turkey & pesto grilled cheese, which was good, but not really anything special. Then again, turkey isn't that special to begin with, so maybe I just didn't choose an interesting sandwich. Also had the chunky tomato basil soup, which had wonderful huge chunks of tomato in it, but way too much basil. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I'd like to come back and try the Armagoetta, which sounds more exciting than turkey. Other than that, though, I probably won't go out of my way to return.

This is the best place for grilled cheese sandwiches. There are many combinations of sandwiches and you can make your own with a large selection of different cheeses. I haven't had a sandwich yet that I haven't liked. My favorite soup is the tomato dill, but it can be hard to get because it's a daily soup that only gets served occasionally. This is also a kid-friendly place. My kids love the food and it always comes out fresh. It's a regular lunch spot for me and my family!

Arrived to restaurant about 4pm on 03/05/15. The sign said it was open until 5pm, so we ran some errands in the area. Came back to the restaurant at 4:30pm and it was closed. They should not put a sign on the door saying they close at 5pm if they are not truly open until 5pm.

This was my first time at tom+chee. So I wasn't exactly sure what to get or what they even had! The lady at the counter was very prompt on helping me decide what I would like to try. I ended up with a sour dough turkey, pepper jack spinach, pesto and red pepper sandwich. With a side of cheeseburger soup. Although I'm kind of a picky person, the woman behind the counter knew exactly what toppings would work best together to delight the tastebuds. It was a wonderful lunch. As I was eating, the lunch crowd rolled in. Atleast 20 ppl or more in the span of 10 mins. And they were all seated and waited no more than 5 or 6 mins for there food. Extremely fast!! I loved it! Definitely will be comming back! They're on it!

Came with my grandma who loves the place. I ordered the mac and grilled cheese sandwich. It was super greasy and not very cheesy. I didn't finish it all. Probably won't be coming back as I had the same problem (greasy) at the Bardstown Rd. location.

How can you screw up "classic tomato soup", which is one of my favorites? Well, their classic tomato soup tastes like warm ketchup with little bits of tomato floating in it. It was inedible. The basic grilled cheese was "meh" -- not a very good quality cheddar, I'd say, but the bread was thick if you like the 'Texas Toast' kind of bread -- good for dipping if the soup was good. Sad. Wanted to like this place. Oh, and the flooring in this places looked like someone got murdered on a yellow floor! Eeek! Big splotches of red smeared markings, which were probably supposed to be tomato soup. Or, maybe someone murdered the cook after tasting the soup?

Think about it. Grilled cheese, tomato soup. Duh. Loved it. Great tomato soup: so glad it didn't taste like Campbell's. This stuff is hearty, savory - in other words, comforting. And of course, it doesn't take a chef to make grilled cheese, but these guys do it better. Yeah sure, you can easily make this yourself. But let's be honest, you're not really gonna have all the options and ingredients yourself. So go on, enjoy a little.

Took my son and had a great experience. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Coming into Louisville from Chicago, I wanted to try something local. This was great. My flying pig was great. The soup was good. My son (11) got a byo grilled cheese and we had to try the grilled cheese donut. We were both skeptical, but after trying it, we were both hooked. Don't know if we can make it back this trip, but we certainly will if we ever see one again in our travels.

Cute little spot. Free parking on the side of the building. Having a child that has to limit her sodium, I was disappointed that this restaurant does not have nutritional information available. However, the cashier offered to get the manager thinking that he might be able to help us out. I knew what cheeses were typically lower in sodium & the manager was more than happy to go check the nutritional labels for us. He also knew which soups had salt added & which didn't. As far as the bread goes, we just had to wing it. I ordered the Caprese salad, which was yummy, although I imagine the summer tomatoes are a little better, and 1/2 a turkey pesto sandwich. The sandwich was good, but just missing a little something. Sun-dried tomatoes might be a good addition next time, or roasted red peppers. All in all, it was a tasty meal and a good value. I think it will take a little experimenting with all their many sandwich options to find the one that will garner 5 stars, but still, it was a good meal & a good experience.

1st visit but won't be the last. Very good food & service! Flying Pig was delicious!

Tom sou with chee san? Yes. Please. I've always liked tomato soup and cheese sandwiches. But up until now it basically consisted of four ingredients: tomato, soup, cheese and sandwich. Now it can have bacon, or hummus, or mushrooms! I got the Flying pig; roasted turkey, bacon, pickles, Gouda, sourdough. And then there was the creamy tomato basil soup. Maybe it was just because I was so hungry and shaking from too much caffeine, but wow! What incredible comfort food. The interior of Tom+Chee is somewhat like that of a classic BBQ restaurant. Except for the ghastly yellow floor which is probably the ugliest floor I have ever seen. That is not a bad thing though. I hope they continue to pursue their ambition of putting in lots of new locations. I need one in my area.

Rainy day and I had to choose between my favorite taco joint and soup from Tom+chee... Tough life Went with the chunky tomato soup and bacon&blue Sammy. Both great and hit the spot on a rainy lazy Saturday. The crunch of the grilled blue cheese with the punch of bacon is to die for. Chased with a thick take on seasoned tomato soup with oyster crackers (homemade croutons would be epic, btw!) all very pleasing. Great lunch spot and unique enough to run out of town era there.

Great company, bad franchise. Go for the donut sandwich, but not for the regular grilled cheeses. My wife and I LOVE grilled cheese, but the St. Matthews Tom + Chee was a mess -- both literally and figuratively. Dirty bathrooms, dirty/uncleared tables, and broken garbage cans. And the food wasn't much better. I ordered the Flying Pig sandwich. It was ok, but instead of using strips of bacon, the sandwich can with a bunch of chopped-up and burned bacon bits. Also, the cheese wasn't even fully melted; Isn't that a can't-miss requirement for any grilled cheese? Also, the sandwich was very dry and without flavor and needed either a spread or dip to go with it. You can always pay extra for side soup, but it would make more sense to just add some kind of spread with kick to the actual sandwich. Overall, it was "ok." But when a shop advertises to be a grilled cheese specialist, I expect them to be at least Berger than the sandwiches I make at home. Sadly, the St. Matthews Tom + Chee failed to even accomplish that.

I LOVE Tom and Chee. I think the idea behind it is fantastic. My BLT and Chee with tomato soup was just alright today though. I have been before and the sandwiches were so much better. Today must have been a bad day for them all. My BLT was extremely greasy, so much so that I felt sick afterwards. The soup was great though. The service was alright. They were all really nice and I could tell that they felt bad that it took them over 40 minutes to complete our order. It's not that they were busy either. The manager apologized by giving us coupons....expired coupons. I love Tom and Chee and I'm hoping today was just an off day for them.

I had the BBQ + Bacon with the Creamy Tomato Basil. They were both very good. I added a little sugar to the soup because it was very tangy and I like tomato based soups and sauces a little sweeter to balance out the acid. My friend did the same and liked it better. The sandwich was near perfection. I hope to go back and try a more grown up version, and maybe one of their dessert grilled cheeses on a donut. For 2 bowls of soup, 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks, it was a little over $25. We were there on a Monday about 1 pm and the dining room was about 3/4 full, so no trouble getting a table. 3 stars for taste and price, fourth star for concept.
